Silent Retreat in Harlem: A Special Breathing Meditation
During this Silent Retreat, Alexandra will teach and guide a special breathing meditation. In this meditation, we combine our breathing with the recitation of the mantra OM AH HUM, which is called the mantra of all Buddhas. This meditation quickly frees our mind from distraction and calms our mind. It also helps us improve our motivation, develop a good heart and a controlled mind, and increase our energy for training in meditation. Combining this method with Buddha’s teaching on transforming the mind opens us to our potential for real change. It enables us to quickly break free from painful habits such as anger, hurt, and compulsions.
During the Session Break
Take time to relax in the meditation space and carry your experience of peace by:
1. Nourishing yourself with a refreshing tea or drink and a healthy snack
2. Exploring our meditation book collection and contemplating passages
About Silence
Silence is not just about not talking; it is about developing an inner quality of stillness. In silence, we engage with the meditation object in a more intimate way. We stop ‘chatting’ about the Dharma from our mouth and start listening to the Dharma from deep within our heart, which gives us a special inner experience of the teachings we receive. Penetrating insights arise, and when we hold them with firm mindfulness, we find that Dharma experience pervades and nourishes our heart at a deep level.
Everyone is welcome. No meditation experience is necessary.
