Positive Empathy

The Power of Rejoicing

Usually, when we think about empathy, it’s along the lines of “I feel your pain”, but is there also a positive empathy? According to Buddha there is and it’s called rejoicing. It turns out that learning to identify positively with and rejoice in others’ experience of happiness, good fortune, and other good qualities, is one of the quickest and most effective methods to develop happiness ourselves … both immediately and in the future. Also, by rejoicing in others’ good qualities – such as their confidence or kindness – we naturally grow those good qualities within ourselves.

It’s also one of the easiest spiritual practices to learn how to do.

In this course, Heather will explain the practice of rejoicing and guide meditations on it so that we can gain first-hand experience.
