What is True Love? How to Be of Greatest Benefit to Ourselves and Others
$10 per class, free for supporting members
This class is offered in-person only
Many of us may spend our life seeking love outside ourselves and pinning our source of happiness on the people who surround us. The result? Relationships that are burdened with the opposite: unhappiness, dissatisfaction, conflict. According to Buddha this is because we often confuse desirous attachment – an unpeaceful, deluded mind – for love. In this series, we will learn how to recognize and reduce our desirous attachment and to replace it with an authentic, true love that produces true happiness. We will train in creating love, rather than trying to find love. This training will allow us to be of greatest benefit to both ourselves and others.

Turning Pain into Compassion: Healing Ourselves and Others
What do we do in the face of physical or mental suffering? Do we find ourselves crushed by the weight of our own suffering? Or overwhelmed by the suffering of others? In this series, we will build a foundation for the powerful ancient meditation practice of Taking and Giving (Tonglen). Through Taking and Giving we learn to fearlessly take on our own suffering and that of others through the development of a mind of strong compassion. In doing so, we destroy our own self-cherishing and negativities. We then give happiness to others by developing a mind of wishing love. The Tonglen meditation is a powerful method for healing ourselves and the world around us. Each class in the series works step-by-step to train the component minds of this powerful meditation.
