Jersey City Buddhist Meditation Class

Healing Ourselves and Others Through the Power of Taking and Giving

This class is offered in-person only

What do we do in the face of suffering? Do we find ourselves crushed by the weight of our own suffering? Or overwhelmed by the suffering of others? In this 6-week series, we will build a meditative foundation for the powerful practice of Taking and Giving (Tonglen). Through Taking and Giving we learn to fearlessly take on our own suffering and that of others through the development of a mind of strong compassion. We then give happiness to others by developing a mind of wishing love. Each class in the series works step-by-step to train the component minds of this powerful meditation.

November 7: Enemies, Friends, and Strangers: Developing Equanimity
November 14:The Great Kindness of Others
November 21: Finding Happiness by Letting Go of Self-Cherishing
November 28: No Class – Thanksgiving Weekend
December 5: Climbing Down the Mountain of Self: Exchanging Self & Other
December 12: Compassion and Love for Ourself
December 19: Compassion and Love for Others at the Holidays
December 26: No Class due to Christmas

They are suitable for both beginners and more advanced practitioners
Each class is self-contained and is also presented as part of a series over 5-6 weeks. Drop into any class you like
No special clothing is required
