Why We Need A Spiritual Guide

In general we acknowledge the need for a teacher in order to learn a new skill, or a therapist to help us with our issues. But many people hesitate when it comes to recognizing the need for a spiritual guide.

How important is it in our study and practice of Buddha’s teachings that we identify and follow the guidance of a spiritual guide? Understanding its importance, how do we recognize who is a valid spiritual guide for us? How can we develop that relationship and how can we ensure that it is authentic, healthy and truly nurturing of our extraordinary inner potential.

The spiritual path is one that will definitely take us into some unfamiliar terrain within our own mind.  This terrain is fascinating, sometimes challenging, and ultimately transcendent, eventually culminating in full enlightenment for the benefit of all. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have someone who has already taken this journey give us guidance along the way?

In this half-day course Kadam Morten will delve into the purpose and qualifications of a spiritual guide, and will guide meditations on how to rely with wisdom and maturity on a qualified spiritual guide. Sharing stories from practitioners of the past, as well as reflections on his own spiritual guide, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Kadam Morten will help us to appreciate and deepen our experience of this most meaningful relationship.
