New Series: Understanding Emptiness Makes Everything Better

This class is offered in person only

Because of emptiness everything is possible. According to Buddha, if we understood correctly how things actually exist, there would be no suffering, there would be only happiness and freedom. Our suffering is arising from our misapprehension of how things exist. It is this ignorance of reality that causes us to develop the delusions of anger and attachment, which in turn cause us to create negative karma, giving rise to yet more suffering. When we understand Buddha’s teachings on emptiness there is an openness and it makes everything better!

Through talks, guided meditations, and discussions, the profound topic of emptiness will be demystified and instead highlight how practical, joyful and creative the practice of integrating emptiness into our daily life can be.

Difficult Conversations

When faced with having to have difficult conversations we may try avoiding them, or we may repress our true feelings, or we may lash out in anger, or all of the above! Ultimately, none of these approaches will lead to happiness. Buddha emphasized the need for skillful and beneficial actions in all circumstances, and in particular he taught four special approaches to dealing with difficulties. Known as the four “siddhis”, or attainments, these four types of enlightened action will empower us with the energy and skill we need to deal with conflict and confrontation. They will allow us to navigate even the most challenging situations calmly and wisely, and they will allow us to speak with clarity and compassion.

May 10: What Creates a Difficult Conversation?
May 17: Overcoming the Fear of Being Rejected
May 24: The Power to Pacify and Inspire
May 31: Not Holding Back
June 7: Fierce Compassion
