Over Five Saturdays During the Summer

Everyone knows that meditation is beneficial, but still we find it difficult to develop a regular practice. These classes during 5 consecutive Saturdays through the summer are designed to help deepen our understanding and practice of meditation so that naturally we develop a strong meditation practice. Although taught as a series, each class is self-contained and you are welcome to attend however many you wish.

In each class we will explore a specific theme instrumental to the practice of meditation through talks, guided meditations and discussion.

Week 1, Saturday, July 27: Breathing Meditation and Our Potential with Julie Stewart

Using the simple practice of breathing meditation not only to make us more peaceful and relaxed, but also to give us insight into the extraordinary potential within our mind.

Week 2, Saturday, August 3: Dealing with Distractions and Transforming Problems with Sara Wendt

How to become a skillful meditator through training in mindfulness and alertness. There’s no need to fight our own mind. Rather we learn through acceptance and wisdom to direct our mind  where we want it to go. Being able to do this in meditation will empower us to be able to deal skillfully with problems in our daily life.

Week 3, Saturday, August 10: Improving our Concentration with France Roy

Here we will learn about analytical and placement meditation. In particular, we will  learn the importance of concentration. It’s through holding our object of meditation, for example the breath or the experience of peace, with strong but relaxed concentration, that we experience the profound transformative power of meditation.

Week 4, Saturday, August 17: Tuning In to Inspiration and Blessings with Naimah Hassan

Meditation is designed primarily as a tool for unlocking and actualizing our extraordinary spiritual happiness. Through practicing meditation we open ourselves to our potential not just for an improved experience of happiness and peace, but for lasting happiness and freedom. The key to this is learning to tune into inspiration and blessings.

Week 5, Saturday, August 24: Understanding Contemplative Meditation with Michelle Valladares

The essence of Kadampa Buddhist meditation is a contemplative meditation practice known as Lamrim or The Stages of the Path. Here we will look at the first of these Stages, the meditation on precious human life, designed to increase our sense of gratitude and good fortune and connect us to purpose and spiritual potential.
