True Freedom
Transcending the Eight Worldly Concerns
While it is a truth (and a great relief to hear!) that we all have the potential for limitless peace, joy, happiness, and eventually even bliss, the fact is, we do not always relate to ourselves as having this potential. Buddha identified eight particular views that we hold of ourselves — eight attitudes — that do not serve us well, and that in fact only keep us imprisoned in ongoing experiences of unsettledness and outright suffering. These go by the name “the eight worldly concerns.” Only through identifying and eventually eradicating these attitudes can we hope to free ourselves from the painful prison of these self-made sufferings.
In this special half-day course, visiting teacher Gen Demo will help us do just that. Through explanation and guided meditation she will hand us the keys we need to effect our own permanent escape from pain and difficulties. This is true freedom.
