Harlem Public Talk
Are you a human being? Have you experienced problems today? Do you want to be free from those problems? Do you want to be happy?
If the answers are ‘yes’, meditation is for you!
Buddha taught meditation to help everyone experience permanent freedom from suffering. Meditation is meant for you regardless of your faith or lack of faith, whether you are spiritual, cynic, or undecided. Buddha offered everyone, in any circumstance, the opportunity to learn to meditate and transform their life.
This series will begin with a Special Public Talk by Western Buddhist monk Gen Kelsang Menla on Thursday, March 7, followed by a 5-week series with Harlem class teacher Alexandra Bonano.
Everyone is welcome. Yes, this means you!
Williamsburg Public Talk
We all want lasting freedom from problems and pain. The possibility of this happening can only develop within a clear, open and patient mind. As we all know, normally our need to escape from unpleasant feelings is so urgent that we become impatient and reactive and we do not give ourself the time to discover where our suffering is actually coming from. We think that things should be different from the way they are. We blame circumstances or other people for our unhappiness. What we need is the clarity and spaciousness of mind to see what is really binding us. Patient acceptance enables us to undo our suffering and creates the space for practical solutions to arise.
In this special event at KMC Williamsburg, visiting Guest Teacher, Gen Kelsang Menla will give teachings and guide us in meditations from the extraordinary book How to Solve Our Human Problems, by the Buddhist Master Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. This book is a practical guide to overcoming frustration and anger, as well as developing the superpowers of complete patient acceptance and the spiritual transformation of our suffering into powerful personal growth. Everyone is welcome!
