Volunteer Job Descriptions

The center offers a variety of volunteering opportunities. This is a warm, inclusive and fun community of people of all ages and backgrounds.

Preparing Brunch

Brunch Preparation

Every Sunday after our morning class (which is one of the biggest in the week) we hold a community brunch. Brunch preparation takes place 11:45am - 12:30pm, and involves washing fruit, boiling eggs, and arranging food beautifully.

While volunteers work with 1-2 other people to bring the brunch into being, voices are kept low due to the proximity of the Sunday morning meditation and teaching. We invite you to stay afterwards and enjoy the brunch so we can get to know you a little better.

Supporting New Community

If you've been coming to classes at the Center for a while now, and you're studying on the Foundation Program or Teacher Training Program, you probably have a lot more shareable knowledge than you realize! Why not sign up to connect with newer practitioners and answer any burning questions they may have about the Center, our programs, and how you have applied Dharma in your life.

Greeting Students

Typically, before a class, when you walk into the Center and head for the meditation room, you'll be greeted by a smiling face and a big hello. Our students tell us they love to be greeted so warmly. We're always looking for more class greeters, especially on the weekends (Saturdays, 9:30 - 10:00am, Sundays, 10:30 - 11:00am) and Monday nights (6:30 - 7:00pm).

Making Offerings

We make beautiful offerings on our Center shrines that require regular upkeep. We're always looking for help with daily water offerings and flower arrangements, as well as substance offerings made to our Dharma protector Dorje Shugden.

In The New Eight Steps to Happiness Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso writes "the success of our meditation depends upon our making six preparations. Just as we need to prepare carefully for an examination or a dinner party if it is to be a success, so we need to prepare carefully for meditation if we are to experience good results."

Cleaning

Light Cleaning

Every week we have around 1000 visitors to our Center! As you can imagine, our space needs constant love and sprucing to keep it welcoming and inspiring.

We welcome cleaners of any age. Even simply sweeping the main lobby floor or wiping down the community table is meaningful. For those interested in heavier cleaning we have plenty of that on offer too!

If you are open to jobs with greater physical demands, such as cleaning large windows and removing chairs and vacuuming, please be sure to let us know.

Making Announcements

We love to begin our General Program classes with a friendly announcement. If you're someone who is comfortable speaking in front of large crowds and would be happy to spend 5-minutes relaying pertinent information to a class, we'd love to give you the floor!
