The Spiritual Foundation of Freedom & Joy
Right now the world is in a horrible mess. There is a lot of hatred and division, not to mention poverty, anxiety, rage and depression. How do we protect ourselves from the storm of suffering raging around us and within us?
According to Buddha’s teachings, known as Dharma, suffering arises not from external conditions themselves but rather from how we respond to them. Suffering arises from the mind and therefore to protect ourselves from suffering we need to learn to train our mind and take refuge in our peaceful nature.
In this half-day course, guest teacher Kadam Lucy will explore the meditation known as ‘going for refuge’ in which we train in transforming fear, anxiety and uncertainty into inner strength, contentment and deep inner peace. We will examine how Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha (known as the Three Jewels of Refuge) are a valid ‘go-to’ for us, and how by relying on them we create a firm foundation for our spiritual path. Through going for refuge in this way we enable our extraordinary potential to emerge, and in the process become a reliable refuge for others.
