A Life Beyond Fear
One night only at the Town Hall Theater, New York City

Is a life beyond fear even possible?

According to Buddha, fear arises from how we respond to our environment not from the environment itself. The fear and anxiety that we experience is therefore not inevitable.

Through the practice of meditation, we can learn to work skillfully with our fear. Instead of allowing it to overwhelm us, we learn to redirect it, so that it moves us towards developing those states of mind that naturally give rise to peace, confidence and a strong sense of purpose.

Based on her nearly 40 years of experience of meditation, Buddhist nun Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong, senior disciple of the great Buddhist teacher, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche and Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition, will guide us into recognizing our potential for a meaningful and joyful life truly beyond fear.

Everyone welcome.

Join us for our Labor Day weekend country retreat, with Kadam Morten!

Sanctuary of Clear Light
The Tantric Perspective on Emptiness
at the Temple for World Peace, Glen Spey

During this retreat, Kadam Morten will guide us into the liberating wisdom of Emptiness.

Emptiness is how things actually are as opposed to how we currently perceive them to be. The reason we get so hung up on things is because we do not understand emptiness. At the moment, we develop strong attachment for what we perceive to be attractive, and strong aversion towards unattractive things, because we do not recognize that those attractive and unattractive characteristics depend on how we perceive the objects and not on the objects themselves. Recognizing that phenomena do not exist in the fixed way in which we perceive them allows us to let go of our negative grasping responses, and instead opens us to a whole new joyful and positive way of experiencing and living our life.

Buddha taught emptiness at many levels. The highest level, known as the union of appearance and emptiness, was revealed in Buddha’s Tantric teachings. Gaining experience of this profound insight helps us to integrate the spacious and joyful experience of emptiness into everything we do. This enables us to let go of old angers and hurts, to see our life afresh from a spiritual perspective, and opens us up to a completely pure way of viewing ourself and our world. Through the special and extraordinarily clear presentation of these teachings given to us by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso we have the wonderful opportunity to immerse ourselves in this life transforming wisdom.

The retreat will combine guided meditations with talks, discussions and Q&As during the sessions. During the breaks there will be periods of silence in which to practice training in the teachings as well periods in which you can share experiences and connect with other practitioners. All of this in the powerful, blessed and beautiful environment of our Temple for World Peace.

Everybody welcome!

Half-day Retreat this Saturday:

HOW TO LIVE LIGHTLY
WITH NATALIA DARIALOVA

It is possible to experience happiness all the time? Not just a brief pleasant feeling that quickly fades, but rather a deep, stable heartfelt happiness that we can effectively build upon, day by day. In Buddhism we call this pure happiness, because it arises from authentic internal causes within the mind, and doesn’t necessarily depend on whether or not things are working out for us externally.

When we grasp at external situations and relationships as the source of our happiness, our life becomes ‘heavy’. At best, these external situations deliver a temporary happiness that quickly fades. Often they don’t even do that. Chasing such ordinary happiness gives way to anxiety, disappointment and frustration. In this retreat, Natalia will explain how to access pure authentic and lasting happiness, and how to nurture it every day. Gaining even just a little bit of experience of this pure happiness allows us to live lightly. We learn in a relaxed way to extract a pure and meaningful happiness from every encounter and situation.

It turns out that developing such happiness is not difficult. We just need to have it pointed out to us and then train in it a little bit every day. Happiness training … that’s what Buddha’s teachings are all about!

Everyone welcome!
