Fearless Heart: Empowerment of Vajrapani & Teachings on Using the Five Forces to Create Inner Change with Gen-la Kelsang Jampa

Fear and anxiety plague our world. As we deal with everything from minor insecurities and social anxiety to concerns about major world events., It’s hard to find a sense of safety and tranquility. Even worse, our fears often stop us from doing what’s right for ourselves and others. During this US Festival we will discover how to develop a spiritual power by relying on Buddha Vajrapani that will help us break out of this fearful state into a courageous, empowered attitude. We will also learn how to harness the five forces, a special inner tool to bring about radical, positive change in our life.

Buddha Vajrapani is the Buddha of spiritual power. With the development of spiritual power we possess the confidence, inner strength and skill not only to take on and defeat our own delusions, but to be of great benefit in helping free others from their delusions as well. Nothing could be more meaningful.

The empowerment is a beautiful and inspiring guided meditation and ritual in which we are introduced to Buddha Vajrapani from whom we then receive many blessings, adding great power to our own practice as well as sowing seeds for our future attainment of enlightenment.

If you are curious about the very basics of Buddhism – what is it? how might it apply to your life? – and you also wish to either learn about meditation in general or improve on your current meditation practice, join us for our monthly Fundamentals of Buddhist Meditation course where we will lay it all out for you.

Session 1: Introduction to Buddhism 10:30 – 11:45 am
In Part I of the course you will learn the fundamentals of Buddhist view and how applying these insights in your daily life will increase your ability to navigate relationships skillfully, remain calm even in the face of turbulence, and to enjoy a deeper sense of well-being and happiness.

Session 2: Introduction to Meditation - a Workshop 12:15 – 1:30 pm
In Part II we will explain the basic nuts and bolts of meditation, from why we would want to meditate to the “technical” matters of how to do it. What do we focus on? How long do we meditate? What are some techniques to help us overcome distractions? We guarantee you will emerge from the Workshop a wiser and more skilled meditator!

The workshop includes guided meditations and plenty of time for questions.

Buddha is telling us that seeking happiness in external objects is like hitting our head against a wall. Happiness is a state of mind and it depends on inner peace, peace of mind.

“Although all living beings have the same basic wish to be happy all the time, very few people understand the real causes of happiness. We usually believe that external conditions such as food, friends, cars and money are the real causes of happiness, and as a result we devote nearly all our time and energy to acquiring them. Superficially it seems that these things can make us happy, but if we look more deeply we will see that they also bring us a lot of suffering and problems.”

Enough of seeking happiness in objects which we know can’t deliver the happiness we want. It’s time to flip the script. In Buddha’s teachings he laid out in a profound and exquisitely beautiful detail all the wisdom meditations for training our mind, which, if we put into practice, will transform our life and take us all the way to the enlightened state of a Buddha!

- How to work with agitating states of mind such as anger and jealousy

Regular attendance at these classes can assist kids with the development of life skills such as increased empathy, respect for others, self-empowerment, optimism, a sense of purpose and concentration.

Spotlight on our Sangha - Meet Todd who is part of our new Queens Branch in LIC!

I retired 13 months ago. These days I`m spending most of my time immersed in the Dharma - reading, thinking, meditating and practicing Buddha`s teachings...and I also volunteer at the center a lot. I can honestly say my retirement is better than I could have ever imagined. That`s got a lot to do with my experience of inner peace which has deepened so substantially over the years. It`s amazing how much I don`t wake up stressed out or sad anymore. I`m waking up pretty happy actually.

I used to have so much anxiety and depression. I was the biggest pointer of fingers ... blaming everyone for everything. But I`ve been working with the idea that all my problems come from my mind for so long now, that slowly I`ve stopped pointing the finger almost all together. One thing that has helped me a lot is to welcome angry thoughts. I say "hi, Anger" or "hi, Sadness," which straight away makes me smile. Then I reconnect to my inner peace which helps so much.

My future is all about continuing to evolve, continuing to grow, deepening my connection to my inner peace. I want to practice more and more and more, because I`ve never known this kind of peace before. I also want to put more energy towards bringing positivity to others and genuinely being able to rejoice in them...being happy for them. Rejoicing, which I learned through Buddhism, is such a beautiful mind.

I really just want to keep practicing and growing and evolving until I reach enlightenment.
