Join us for our Labor Day weekend country retreat, with Kadam Morten!

Sanctuary of Clear Light
The Tantric Perspective on Emptiness
at the Temple for World Peace, Glen Spey

During this retreat, Kadam Morten will guide us into the liberating wisdom of Emptiness.

Emptiness is how things actually are as opposed to how we currently perceive them to be. The reason we get so hung up on things is because we do not understand emptiness. At the moment, we develop strong attachment for what we perceive to be attractive, and strong aversion towards unattractive things, because we do not recognize that those attractive and unattractive characteristics depend on how we perceive the objects and not on the objects themselves. Recognizing that phenomena do not exist in the fixed way in which we perceive them allows us to let go of our negative grasping responses, and instead opens us to a whole new joyful and positive way of experiencing and living our life.

Buddha taught emptiness at many levels. The highest level, known as the union of appearance and emptiness, was revealed in Buddhaโ€™s Tantric teachings. Gaining experience of this profound insight helps us to integrate the spacious and joyful experience of emptiness into everything we do. This enables us to let go of old angers and hurts, to see our life afresh from a spiritual perspective, and opens us up to a completely pure way of viewing ourself and our world. Through the special and extraordinarily clear presentation of these teachings given to us by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso we have the wonderful opportunity to immerse ourselves in this life transforming wisdom.

The retreat will combine guided meditations with talks, discussions and Q&As during the sessions. During the breaks there will be periods of silence in which to practice training in the teachings as well periods in which you can share experiences and connect with other practitioners. All of this in the powerful, blessed and beautiful environment of our Temple for World Peace.

Everybody welcome!

Kadampa Meditation Center New York City presents:

A Life Beyond Fear
with Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong
at the Town Hall Theater
Thursday, September 11
7:00 - 8:30pm

Is a life beyond fear even possible?
According to Buddha, fear arises from how we respond to our environment not from the environment itself. The fear and anxiety that we experience is therefore not inevitable.

Through the practice of meditation, we can learn to work skillfully with our fear. Instead of allowing it to overwhelm us, we learn to redirect it, so that it moves us towards developing those states of mind that naturally give rise to peace, confidence and a strong sense of purpose.

Based on her nearly 40 years of experience of meditation, Buddhist nun Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong, senior disciple of the great Buddhist teacher, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche and Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition, will guide us into recognizing our potential for a meaningful and joyful life truly beyond fear.

Everyone welcome.

Half-day Course this Saturday, with Edwin Tubb

THE ART OF LETTING GO

โ€œLet it go.โ€ Weโ€™ve offered and received this advice on countless occasions. And we know it is good advice. It makes perfect sense to drop the pain and move on.

Why then is it so difficult to do? Why do we struggle to let go of hurts and resentments, and why do we so readily harbor suffering in our hearts? Do we want the pain?

In holding onto our pain we become trapped by the past and stuck in limited versions of ourself. Weโ€™re doomed to repeat painful patterns of behaviour and we lose sight of our Buddha nature โ€“ our actual potential for growth and transformation.

Fortunately, it doesnโ€™t have to be this way. According to Buddhist psychology, weโ€™re unable to let go of our pain due to the root delusions of anger, attachment and ignorance โ€“ mental distortions that set us up for grasping and suffering in advance. By applying Buddhaโ€™s wisdom to our daily life we can discover a step-by-step methodology to authentically let go. We can learn to distinguish between inner and outer problems, reflect on the role of our own mistaken expectations, open our hearts to forgiveness, and discover a brand new source of happiness from within.
