How to Settle the Mind
Advice from the Great Meditator Saraha
Followed by optional Zoom discussions 5 minutes after class (details below)
$15 per class, free for supporting members
This class is rebroadcast on Friday at 11:15am (sold separately)
The meditation on the clarity of the mind that we have been focusing on in our Thursday series is the foundational meditation in the development of what is called “Mahamudra”. Mahamudra, meaning the union of the mind of great bliss and emptiness, is the principal goal of our meditation training. Once we develop a fully qualified experience of Mahamudra we will attain enlightenment swiftly, within that very lifetime. Since developing firm concentration on the clarity of the mind lays the foundation for this accomplishment, gaining experience in it is essential.
In this series we will explore the advice of the great Mahamudra meditation master, Saraha, from the 8th Century, as transmitted by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso in Clear Light of Bliss. Given in the form of a series of beautiful and practical analogies, we will learn, and train in, how to settle the mind into our special object, the clarity of the mind.
Each talk will consist of a talk and guided meditation, with an opportunity to discuss one’s experiences and have one’s questions answered.
